Men’s & Women’s Amateur Championship – Update Day 2

Men&aposs & Women&aposs Amateur Championship – Day 2 updates Emma Ash and Tom Bond win SA Amateur Medals Kooyonga&aposs Emma Ash won the Women&aposs Amateur Championship Medal after carding a course record 7-under par 68 at Blackwood Golf Club. Ash&aposs round included six birdies and an eagle across Blackwood&aposs immaculate but challenging par 75 layout, to take the Medal title by six shots from fellow Kooyonga member Ebony Heard. Ash obliterated the previous Blackwood course record of 71, set back in 2002 by now touring professional Rebecca Coakley. Ash finishing on 138 after being tied for the lead overnight with Heard after both players carded opening round 70s at Mt Osmond. Despite playing solid golf in round two, Heard wasn&apost able to keep pace with Ash in round two, eventually settling for a 1-under par 74 to finish on 144 as second qualifier. Grace Lennon (Kingston Heath) carding a 2-over par 77 to finish on 151 with Royal Adelaide&aposs Sarah King rounding out the top four qualifiers with rounds of 72, 79 (151). In the Women&aposs Bronze Cup, Kooyonga&aposs Susan Fuller was both top qualifier and Veterans section winner after carding rounds of 96 and 101. _______ Tom Bond (The Grange) has successfully defended his SA Amateur Medal title finishing a shot clear of the field at Blackwood Golf Club. Bond was a model of consistency, carding second day rounds of 68 and 72 to go with yesterday&aposs rounds of 74 and 68 to finish on a 6-under par total of 282. Bond finished a shot clear of fellow Grange member Anthony Murdaca who carded second day rounds of 72, 68 to go with yesterday&aposs 76 and 67, which remained the events lowest individual round. Bonnie Doon&aposs Mitch Davis qualified third with rounds of 75, 68, 75, 70 (288) with Jacob Sewell (Flagstaff Hill) rounding out the top four qualifiers with rounds of 73, 71, 71 and 74 (289). In total 15 players automatically qualified for the Amateur Matchplay with a total of 10-over par 298 or better, with three players finishing on 299 and playing off for the final position in the last 16. The Matchplay rounds to decide the 2011 SA Men&aposs and Women&aposs Amateur Championship start on Thursday morning at Glenelg Golf Club.
