Merewether win Women’s Fourball Classic State Final

The field was seeded for the final day of play in the 2013 NSW Women’s Fourball Classic State Final at Bonville Golf Resort with the leading groups teeing of last off the 1st tee. Four teams lead the field after the first day of play, however none were able to replicate their score of +4. Consistency from the Merewether Golf Club pair of Julie Johnston & Kelly Baldwin saw them finish with +7, shooting +4 today and +3 yesterday. This was enough to secure them the title by one point. Runners up were Susan Martyn and Cheryl Powell from Vincentia Golf Club with an overall score of +6. Third place on a countback on +4 were mother and daughter pairing, Stephanie Rapmund & Erin Wightman. Congratulations to all teams who took part. Full results and prize winners available below. Players were greeted with blue skies and clear weather for the first day of play in the 2013 NSW Women&aposs Fourball Classic State Final at Bonville Golf Resort. It was a challenge for many of the teams today, with a wide range of scores posted. Leading the field with a score of +4 are three teams – Commercial Albury Golf Club (A. Whiting (29) & V. Spring (27)), Concord Golf Club (J. Lancken (22) & S. Phillips (10)), and Strathfield Golf Club (H. Kim (27) & T. Song (21)). Just one shot further behind on +3 are The Lakes Golf Club (L. Hammond (20) & R. Butcher (22)), Merewether Golf Club (J. Johnston (18) & K. Baldwin (28)), and Elanora Country Club (L. Clarke (32) & S. Clarke (32)). The 2013 NSW Women&aposs Fourball Classic State Final will take place on 24-27 November 2013. Thirty pairs (12 metropolitan and 18 country) have qualified through Club and District events to reach the State Final. They will play two rounds at the magnificent Bonville Golf Resort to determine the 2013 Champions. Draw and Player Information can be found via the link at the bottom of the page. The Championship kicked off on 1 January 2013, with club qualifying rounds commencing around the state. This year over 260 clubs participated in this event, with over 4,200 pairs competing at club level. In September and October, metropolitan and district play-offs narrowed it down to 12 metropolitan and 18 country pairs to contest the State Final. The State Final is 36-holes (two rounds of 18-holes). The pairs playing in the final of this tournament have had an amazing journey, from qualifiers at the start of the year, to making it right through to the state final it’s a real achievement , remarked Graeme Phillipson, General Manager of Golf at Golf NSW. Activities kick off on Sunday 24 November with a welcome BBQ for the players before they take to the course on Monday and Tuesday. The event concludes with a presentation dinner on Tuesday night to reward players for their efforts and to provide a festive finale to a fantastic event. Good luck to all in the Championship.
