Metro Major Pennants Heating Up

DIVISION 1

St. Michael’s GC secured a vital away win defeating Avondale 4.5-2.5. With Jye Pickin of Avondale winning 6&5, it was left to another NSW Boys Team representative, Harrison Crowe to secure the win for the Maroubra club on the 18th hole and win 2up. The Lakes and Pymble shared the points with a 3.5-3.5 draw which was played at The Lakes GC. Josh Armstrong was too strong winning 7&6 and Samuel Beck winning 6&5 were the standouts for the home team.

Long Reef were too strong at home defeating The Australian 5-2. Blake Windred continued his fine form with an impressive 5&4 win but it was Long Reef’s Tom Bateman winning 5&4 who led the northern beaches club to victory. Mona Vale made it two from as many matches accounting for Cabramatta 5-2.  It was closer than the score reads as six of the seven matches went to 17th or further.

Bonnie Doon continued their great start to 2018 Pennant season defeating Pennant Hills 6-1.  Bonnie Doon’s Andrew Cinelli winning 6&5 was the best with Jack Mcleod also posting a 5&4 win. The side from Pagewood boasts six players from its winning 2017 Eric Apperly Team. Ryde-Parramatta defeated Moore Park 4-3 at home. Five of seven matches going down the 18th hole, Ryde-Parramatta’s Nicholas Lloyd winning 4&2 was the standout.

New South Wales GC and Concord kept their wining start to season intact. New South Wales GC were too strong defeating Macquarie Links 5.5-15. Andy Li winning 6&5 and Harry Doig and Zinyo Garcia both winning 5&4 secured the win for the home team. Concord battled and prevailed in a tight contest defeating Bankstown 4-3. Bankstown’s Matt Osborne the best winning 4&2. Five of the seven matches were decided on the 18th hole, with four matches halved.

DIVISION 2

In Section 1, Killara defeated Stonecutters Ridge 4-3. In a tight match, Killara’s Will Fraser was the standout winning 5&4 and Stonecutters Ridge’s Mark Hancock won 5&4 in a losing team. In another close one that could of gone either way, Cromer prevailed defeating Dunheved. Timothy Felan of Cromer led the way winning 8&7 with three of the 4 last matches being decided on the 18th hole.

North Ryde accounted for Bayview winning 5-2. Kyle Mathieson winning 4&3 and Michael Hooper winning 4&2 secured the win for the home team. Penrith bounced back with a tough win over Oatlands 4.5-2.5. Jefferey Gadd impressive winning 7&5 with Dale Hughes also strong winning 6&5.

Twin Creek’s Nicholas Cochrane winning 4&3 and Matthew Pavisa winning 4&2 was not enough for the Western Sydney club, as a gallant Castle Hill club prevailed in another close encounter 4-3. Lynwood were triumph at home defeating Fox Hills 4.5-2.5. Paul Knipler of Lynwood winning 4&3 was matched by Fox Hill’s Joel Wheatley and Luke Shahmatov winning 4&3.

Liverpool defeated Monash 4-3. In a tight contest where three matches were decided on the 18th hole and all going the way of Liverpool. Monash’s trio of Nathan Barbieri winning 6&5 and Suni Patel and Patrick Bryan winning 5&4 were the standouts. Muirfield and Cronulla couldn’t be separated playing out a 3.5-3.5 draw.  Cronulla’s Brad Thompson was the best winning 6&5.

DIVISION 3

Palm Beach dominated defeating Cumberland 6-1. Led by Chris Seymor and Phillip Rudd winning 4&3, the 9 hole northern beaches club, promoted from Division five to three in the past couple of seasons, may just surprise a few people this year. Massey Park made it two from two accounting for Manly 4-3. Stephen Carroll was the standout winning 6&5.

Both Carnarvon and Lakeside again were able to defeat their opponents away from home this week. Carnarvon were too strong defeating Asquith 5-2. Carnarvon’s Ali Dilshad impressing winning 9&7. In a closer encounter, Lakeside prevailed against Woolooware 4-3. With five matches going to the 17th or further and two matches halved. Lakeside’s Jay Choma impressed winning 5&4.

Kogarah and Camden made it two from as many matches. Kogarah defeated Eastlake 4.5-2.5 in a tight match that saw five matches reach 17th or further. Kogarah’s Greg Harnwell winning 6&5. While Camden were too strong at home defeating Antill Park 5.5-1.5. Greg Matheson impressive winning 7&6

Glenmore Heritage and Royal Sydney will meet next week in top of the table clash after both clubs collected away wins this week. Glenmore prevailed in a close one against Wakehurst 5-2, with six of the seven matches going to the 17th hole or further. Wakehurst’s only joy was Brett Mason winning 6&4. Royal Sydney accounted for Wallacia 4.5-2.5 with James Ledgerwood, Andrew Fairbairn and Alexander Harris all winning 4&3.

DIVISION 4

Bardwell Valley recorded a 5-2 win at home against Campbelltown. Amongst Bardwell Valley’s winners was Ian Elliot who won 4&2. The other match in section 1, Randwick and Bexley played out a 3.5-3.5 draw, which had 5 matches Halved and only 2 matches with a result. Bexley’s Wayne Matthews winning 5&3 wasn’t enough to upset Randwick at home.

Warringah made it two from two prevailing against Roseville in a tight 4-3 win. Ciaran Macmillan of Warringah was the standout winning 5&3 but it was Samuel Matheson 3&1 comeback win which clichéd the tie for Warringah. Marrickville and Strathfield played out a 3.5-3.5 draw at Marrickville. Stephen Oitmaa of Marrickville was the pick winning 5&4.

The Coast defeated Leonay 5-2 with Alman Ogane of The Coast winning 6&5. But that was topped by Leonay’s David Grosse clean sweeping his opponent to win 10&8. Northbridge bounced back at home with a strong win defeating Richmond 5.5-1.5. Led by John Renshaw’s 6&5 win and backed up by Brett Benson and Daniel Lewis winning 5&4.

Windsor prevailed defeating Brighton Lakes 4-3. Both Dale Farrugia and Christopher Shaw of Windsor were the standouts winning 5&4. But the result was only sealed on 18th hole by Windsor’s James Singleton winning 1 up. Beverley Park defeated Riverside Oaks 4-3. With Nicholas Baglin and Victor Chieng winning 4&3 for Riverside Oaks, the result of this close encounter was sealed by Beverley Park’s last two players Stephen Coghlan and Harley Holohan winning on the 18th hole.

DIVISION 5

Springwood travelled to Chatswood and were victorious 4-3. Brad Cole was the standout winning 7&6 for Springwood while Paul Barker and Biraj Silwal 5&4 wins were the only joy for the Home side. Georges River GC prevailed in a close encounter against Hurstville winning 4-3.Ryan Hochkins led the way winning 5&4 and Hurstville’s Danny Petkovski had an impressive 7&5 win.

Rosnay were too strong at home defeating Bondi 6-1. Rosnay’s Jeremy Skinner and Brad Minard both winning comfortably 6&5. While Kareela and Barnwell Park played out a 3.5-3.5 draw at Barnwell Park. Anthony Pellegrino winning 7&6 for the home team.

In section 3, Cammeray proved home ground is an advantage defeating Macarthur Grange 5-2. Kevin Gibb winning 6&4 and David O’Kane winning 6&5 were the main standouts for Cammeray.

WOMEN DIVISION 1

2016 Champions, The Australian GC proved far too strong defeating Moore Park 5-0. Monica Johnson made easy work of her opponent winning 6&4. St. Michael’s were able to keep their winning start to season defeating Bonnie Doon 3-2. Teresa Nurdi was the Maroubra clubs standout winning 5&4. Both The Australian GC and St.Michael’s GC meet in the next round.

Concord accounted for The Lakes at home winning 5-0. The 2017 finalists, led by NSW Amateur Runner Up, Doey Choi winning 4&3, Belinda Ji winning 6&4 and 13 year old Sophie Yip winning 7&6. New South Wales GC prevailed away, defeating Castle Hill 3-2 in a tight contest.

WOMEN DIVISION 2

Cronulla dominated Cumberland with a 5-0 at Home. For the Shire club, it was Gabrielle Angelique Beohm who impressed with a 6&5 win which has them sitting ontop of their section after round 2.

Both Pymble and Stonecutters backed up their away wins last week by proving too strong at home accounting for their opponents 4-1. For Pymble, Annika Boyd led the way winning 5&3 while Ann Quarmby was North Ryde’s only joy winning 5&4. Stonecutter’s Caitlin Davidson was the standout out winning 6&5 for home team, while Shannon Lee of Ryde-Parramatta won 6&5.
