Metropolitan Pennants – Simpson Cup Rd 2 Results

Tea Tree Gully captain Chris Austin saw his side home in a close 4&3 win over The Grange in round 2 of the Simpson Cup Tea Tree Gully have got their season back on track following a hard fought 4&3 over The Grange in round two of the Simpson Cup, while in the other fixtures Kooyonga defeated Glenelg 5 1/2 to 1 1/2, Blackwood defeated Thaxted 4&3 and Flagstaff Hill and Royal Adelaide drew 3 1/2 all. The replay of last year&aposs Simpson Cup final between Tea Tree Gully and Grange again proved to be a hard fought affair, although it was Grange who looked odds on to secure the contest after victories to Matthew Lisk, Sam Masters and Anthony Murdaca saw them leading 3 – 1 after four matches. In a stellar rearguard action, Tea Tree&aposs top three saw their team home by the narrowest of margins, with Brett Crosby defeating Tom Bond 3&1, Greg Blewett holding on in a tight contest against Chris Brown to win 1-up, and captain Chris Austin accounting for Alex Hendrick 2&1. The other highlight of round two came in the form of a thrilling 3 1/2 all draw between Royal Adelaide and Flagstaff Hill. Again Royal looked favorites to take the contest when Matt Overall&aposs 4&3 win over Scott Reedy saw them leading 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 with two matches to play, but gutsy 2&1 wins by Jacob Sewell over Ben Stowe and Jared Roxby over Brad Moules insured the contest was halved. Blackwood made amends for last week&aposs narrow loss to Flagstaff Hill, with a 4 & 3 win over the plucky Thaxted Park. Lee Cole and Aaron Amos got Blackwood off to the perfect start with wins over Jake Munn and James Trezise respectively before victories to Matt Rolton, Matt Hey and Ben Leske brought Thaxted back into the contest. Blackwood&aposs Andy Humphries continued his perfect start to the season, seeing his side home to victory with a final match 2&1 win over Ben Ash. Kooyonga backed up impressively after last week&aposs round one upset over Tea Tree Gully, accounting for Glenelg 5 1/2 to 1 1/2. Sam Gava, John Hayes and Heath Riches all recorded runaway victories for Kooyonga while Nick Roper and Moe Nagi recorded the season&aposs first points for the struggling Glenelg. Next week s round three matches are held at Kooyonga with the home side&aposs clash against Royal Adelaide promising to be the match of the round.
