MFS Mid Amateur Champ to receive MFS Australian Open exemption.

The inaugural MFS Men’sMid Amateur Championship will be played from the 16th – 18th of January at the National Golf Club&aposs Ocean Course on Victoria&aposs beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Golf Australia announced today that for the first time the winner of the tournament will receive a direct exemption into the 2007 MFS Men&aposs Australian Open. As part of Golf Australia&aposs long term strategy to develop golf at a grassroots level, this new initiative provides amateur golfers with the opportunity to compete against the greats. Not only to develop the competitors&apos game, but to provide a memorable experience and a taste of what&aposs to come. Trevor Herden, Manager of Tournaments and Championships, Golf Australia said, “Forty percent of Australian male golfers are between the ages of 30 and 50 and this is a specially tailored event, with a great reward on offer for a demographic that is a major contributor to our game.” Eligibility for the Championship is for male golfers aged between 30 and 54 with a handicap of 5.4 or less. Once again, MFS has continued its support of Australian golf and will assume naming rights sponsor of the inaugural event.
