David Micheluzzi’s bold run in the British Amateur came to an end in the quarter-finals at Dundee in Scotland yesterday.
The Australian lost his quarter-final match to Ireland’s Conor Purcell 3 and 2, falling behind at the fourth hole and never really recovering.
Micheluzzi, 21, who plays out of the Victorian Institute of Sport and Metropolitan Golf Club, was the last Australian remaining in the top class field for the amateur at Royal Aberdeen, with places in the Open Championship and next year’s Masters and US Open on the line.
The Melburnian has had a remarkable last 12 months, winning the Victorian Amateur, the Master of the Amateurs and leading Victoria to its second consecutive victory in Golf Australia’s Interstate series in Perth with an unbeaten record.
South Africa’s Jovan Rebula and Robin Dawson of Ireland will play off in the final tonight (Australian time) over 36 holes.
