Micheluzzi outclasses with knock-out win

David Micheluzzi is a dual title holder after his knock-out victory today claiming both Woodlands Open Amateur and Victorian Men’s Champion of Champions titles.

The last event on the 2017 Ivo Whitton ranking calendar saw a strong calibre field teeing it up in perfect scoring conditions at Woodlands golf club. Slick greens and narrow fairways proved to be a challenge and was highlighted in the scores returned.

Micheluzzi started the day strong, carding a 5 under par 67 to take a three-shot lead over Metropolitan’s Lukas Michel at half time. The recently crowned Victorian Amateur Champion and member of Cranbourne and Metropolitan golf clubs carded an impressive eight birdies in his morning round to out strike his opponents. Micheluzzi continued his hot form into the afternoon with a further four to finish on 9 under par 135 and a convincing 7 shot win over Michel on -2 (70, 72). A mere shot back was defending champion Matias Sanchez of Royal Melbourne on one under par with rounds of 71 and 72.

The Victorian Men’s Champion of Champions title, awarded to club/district champions and state title winners, was played in conjunction with the event for the second year in a row. Micheluzzi and Port Phillip Open Amateur champion Michel took home both winner and runner-up trophies respectively.

Thank you to all players that have supported the event and Woodlands golf club for their hospitality.
