Mitchell wins Victorian Blind Golf Championship

Blind Golf Victoria conducted its 24th Open Championship over 36 holes on the South Course of the magnificent Rosebud Country Club on 14 & 15 March 2013. Nineteen players took part with entrants coming from NSW, QLD, SA and VIC. Stephen Mitchell (B3) from New South Wales, with Norm Lyons as caddie, won the 2013 championship with 73 stableford points over the two rounds. In opening the trophy presentation ceremony, BGV President Mr Doug Sloan, thanked the Rosebud Country Club for hosting the event and as is customary thanked the many members who volunteered their time as equipment manager, starters, marshalls, rules officials, and scorers. He also thanked the players and caddies for supporting this major event. The Captain of the Rosebud Country Golf Club, Mr Barry Thomas, also acknowledged the Club’s support of this event for the past twenty-three years and thanked club staff and members for giving their time over the two-day event. Mr Doug Sloan was also proud to announce that Honorary Life Membership of Blind Golf Victoria had been awarded to Mr Arthur Jones for his untiring support of the event over many years and particularly for his services as equipment manager. His Life Membership Medal was presented to him by Mr David Blyth. Blind golf has categories B1, B2 and B3 depending on the player s vision capabilities. B1 players are totally blind.
