Moir suffers playoff loss

Big-hitting Australian Richard Moir has finished second at the Macau Open after losing on the third playoff hole to Chinese Taipei veteran Lu Wen-teh. In the rain shortened event, Moir could only make par at the third playoff hole, while Lu made birdie to claim the title. “I have a good short game and that&aposs what I used to win the play off,” Lu said after his victory. Lu started the final round four shots off the pace but made birdies at the 13th, 16th and 18th holes to charge into the lead. Moir made two crucial late birdies during his third and final round of 69 to force a playoff against Lu at 12-under-par, but failed to take advantage of his form in the playoff holes. Indian Gaurav Ghei finished in outright third at 11-under-par, while Wen-Chong Liang was a further shot back in outright fourth. Australian Kane Webber carded a final round of 65 to finish the tournament at eight-under-par in a share of sixth place, while compatriot Mitchell Brown shot a 66 to finish equal ninth at seven-under-par. Australians Brad Kennedy, Leigh McKechnie and Unho Park all tied for 14th position at six-under-par.
