The Mornington Peninsula Senior Amateur was played in spectacular conditions today at Portsea Golf Club. The still and sunny morning was a nice contrast to the extreme weather experienced at Flinders Golf Club yesterday that eventually led to the cancellation of round 1.
Kim Johnson from The National GC won the Men’s Gross Championship with a five over par score of 76. Stephen Valentine from Kew GC claimed the runner-up prize with a score of 79 on a countback. In the Nett competition, Ignatius Duivenvoorden (Yarram GC) was a runaway winner, shooting 79 off the stick for a nett score of 65. Mark Dunstan (Spring Valley GC) had the next best score with a nett 70.
In the Women’s Scratch event, June Tickell (Trafalgar GC) was a clear winner with 32 scratch stableford points which equated to a 76 off the stick. The runner-up in this event was Kerrin Biddle (Thirteenth Beach GC) with 24 points. Clare Murphy (Mornington GC) won the Nett competition with 29 stableford points and Annette Bain (The Heritage GC) came second with 27 stableford points on a countback.
Thank you to all players for participating and making this a great event. Both Portsea and Flinders Golf Clubs were presented in magnificent condition and were thoroughly enjoyed by all despite the horrendous weather on Monday. We hope to see many of you competing at The National Senior Masters next week or The Eureka Senior Amateur the week after.
