David and Terry Farquharson have completed a special week to be crowned the 2019 Sir Dallas Brooks Champions at The Metropolitan Golf Club.
The mother and son duo defeated number one qualifiers Ellen Pollock and Jonathan Cross in an outstanding final, going to the very last hole.
Pollock and Cross had breezed through to the final with comfortable victories over Wayne Aigner & Karen Morrison (6/4), Christine Faram & Joshua Monk (5/4) and John Montgomery & Heather Cameron (6/5).
The Farquharson’s journey to the final had not been as smooth, defeating Paul Treloar & Marianne Stoettrup and Martin Hirons & Louise Johns on the 17th in their first two rounds.
The semi-final yesterday would prove to be their toughest test as they went all the way to the 18th hole before finally saluting against a gallant Heather & Andrew Peters from Spring Valley.
Pollock and Cross, who play their golf at Commonwealth, established an early advantage to go 2 up through 9 holes.
The Farquharson’s would begin to find their groove with wins on 12, 13 and 14 giving them a 1 up lead with just five holes to play.
Pollock and Cross would bounce back with a win on 15 and when 16 was halved, the match was all square with just two holes to play.
After Terry found the fairway with her drive, David was left just shy of 200m for his second shot, with Pollock and Cross in a good spot after their drive.
An amazing long iron to 8 foot followed by a clutch putt from Terry would give them a remarkable birdie with a shot on the last hole.
A bogey five would prove enough to be victorious and cap off a special moment for the family.
Whilst disappointed in coming so close, Pollock and Cross should be proud of their efforts throughout the week, winning the Victorian Mixed Foursomes on Tuesday and making it to the final.
The Metropolitan Golf Club is once again to be congratulated for the terrific presentation of the course.
