Congratulations to Mount Osmond Golf Club, MyGolf’s latest centre of the month.
The club, located within minutes of Adelaide’s CBD, has had great success with its MyGolf after-school clinics running throughout Term 3.
The clinics provide friendly, inclusive sessions for juniors of all skill levels. They have attracted 32 participants for the past two terms.
The club has recently added a short course, providing more opportunity for the juniors to play rounds. Depending on skill levels, the MyGolfers can play either four, six or nine holes, with some participants already having a handicap and playing 18!
PGA trainee professional Rebecca West has recently taken over the program and has excelled with the kids, co-ordinator Jenny Butcher said.
Geoff Wagner has also assisted with the program, with a dedicated grandson participating in the weekly sessions.
The participants cater for a variety of ages, with an up-and-coming four-year-old taking part each week and now hitting the ball up to 40m!
“He loves the program, his dad needs to make him leave the course when it’s time to go home!” Jenny said.
The club’s next youngest participant, at only six years old, is now pumped to be hitting balls up to 60m.
“One girl at the club is 11 years old and now on a single-figure handicap, it’s such an inspiration to keep the kids going,” Jenny said.
A handful of participants have begun to play tournaments, even making it to state level.
With better weather on the way, Jenny hopes to have the MyGolfers out on course more frequently throughout next term.
Congratulations again to Mt Osmond, a testament to the rising levels of participation within junior golf.
Keep up the great work!
