Mt Lawley girls simply ace

Mount Lawley juniors Regan McOmish and Ruby Fry had a Sunday to remember after both aced the par-three sixth within a half-hour of each other.

While most of us are still awaiting that elusive first hole-in-one, for Fry, who is just 12 years old, the wait is over after a perfectly-executed six-iron found a pin tucked away on the right-hand side of the green.

And Fry was still beaming with pride when 18-year-old McOmish joined her by repeating the trick at the same hole moments later.

It highlighted a memorable day for the Mount Lawley girls as 11-year-old Mia Lawson won the morning competition with a score of 45 points as the 18 handicapper carded an 83.

Valerie Khuu, 10, was runner-up with 40 points after she shot a 79 off her nine handicap. Ai-Leng Lee, 13, and Amanda Gan, 12, both had 36 points to share fourth place.

Fry, Lawson and Gan are set to participate in next month’s Pacific School Games in Adelaide as part of School Sport WA’s 12-and-under team.

Golf is one of 11 sports that will be played at the Games, which run from 3-9 December, and is set to feature more than 4000 student athletes from 15 different countries, including each Australian state.
