Murray Downs Golf Club put on a show as women from across the state flocked to Swan Hill to compete in the Autumn Country Tournament. A record-breaking 222 players are competing for two major trophies; the Ruby McKenzie Trophy (Best 36-Hole Gross) and Vi Teesdale Trophy (Best 36-Hole Nett).
The golf course was presented in pristine condition and proved to be challenging for all players on the first day of play. Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) and Stephanie Robinson (Sanctuary Lakes) are leading the gross field tied at five over par 79. Closely following the pair is Mooroopna’s Sandy Millet a shot shy with an opening round of 80, and Heather Harley from Kooringal on 82.
Dianne Goodall (Warrnambool, Hcp 29) posted a solid leading nett score of 71 on the tricky par 72 layout. Other great scores of the day came from Kyabram Valley View’s Tracey Wade (Hcp 22) and Leanne Busch (Hcp 17), posting nett 72 and 73 respectively, as well as Noreen Miller (Corowa, Hcp 15) also on nett 73.
The Tournament Dinner is held at the club tonight which is a great opportunity for players to mingle off the course and reenergize for the second and final round tomorrow.
