Murray gets reward for hard effort

Zach Murray has been travelling much better than his scores would have you believe this northern summer.

So it was no surprise that the lanky Victorian found himself near the pointy end of the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at Seattle Golf Club today.

The Golf Australia national squad member poured in four birdies to shoot a promising two-under-par 70 featuring four birdies to trail Thailand’s KK Limbhasut by two in the storied tournament’s 50th edition.

Murray was one of three Victorians to lead the Aussie charge with Cameron John (72) and Brett Coletta (73) both inside the top 20.

Troy Moses and fellow Sydneysider Cam Davis are still in the mix at 74, while Melbourne’s David Micheluzzi, Perth’s Freddy Lee and New South Welshman Ruben Sondaja each fired rounds of 75 to sit T36.

Queensland’s Anthony Quayle fired an unusually erratic 77, while West Australian Kiran Day played himself out of the hunt with a flat 79.
