Murray the Par 3 Specialist

Zach Murray has claimed the 2014 Victorian Men’s Par 3 Championship after a fighting even par 54 final round today. Zach put together three impressive rounds of 54, 56 & 54 to edge out overnight co-leader and good friend Matias Sanchez by four shots.  Zach got off to a great start in his final round with four birdies on his front nine 24. From there he was tough to beat.

Murray, now a well know amateur across the national scene, had his eye on the title since his close appearance last year in which he finished third. This win just adds to his already long list of outstanding achievements.

“My iron play was great. I actually missed a few putts!” said Murray after his win.

Zach now travels to Japan next week to compete in the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup, which is played from 24-27 June.

In B grade, local Peter Myers took the honours with three rounds of 65, 61 & 69.

In the nett, David Cartwright produced three consistent rounds to claim the A Grade nett title. Fellow competitor & Kyabram Parklands member, Peter Barrette won the B Grade nett trophy with three rounds of very consistent rounds of 55 nett.

The Victorian Par 3 Championships concludes for another year with Sari Saly (Kilmore) & Zach Murray (Commonwealth) crowned the Women’s and Men’s champions respectively. This year saw 81 different clubs being represented across the week, a fantastic representation.

All volunteers and club representatives should be acknowledged for their effort and commitment in making the event a huge success. Support from the club members and the local community is a mammoth factor in sport.

Next year’s Women’s Par 3 Championships will be played on Wednesday 3 – Thursday 4 June and the Men’s from Saturday 6 – Sunday 7 June.
