Glenelg Golf Club, located close to the Adelaide seaside, is the winner of December’s MyGolf Centre of the Month Award.
Director of golf operations and head professional Shane Robinson and his team at Glenelg have worked hard over the past four years to establish their Junior Tigers program, but they understood the importance of aligning and supporting with the national junior program – MyGolf.
“For golf to compete with other sports, it is imperative that national, state and club run programs are rolled out and co-ordinated in a professional and collaborative manner,” Shane said.
Glenelg‘s most recent term 4 MyGolf programs (last year) experienced an outstanding 50 junior registrations – a fantastic result!
Shane and his team will continue running MyGolf programs through 2016. They expect that their term 1 programs will continue the strong momentum following last year’s programs and their recently completed school holiday programs.
“We hope to have another strong term 1 program with at least 50 participants,” Shane said.
When asked what he thought of his alignment with the MyGolf program so far, Shane praised the website and online registration process aimed at reducing the level of administration for MyGolf centres.
“The MyGolf website and registration process provides transparency in terms of available golf programs to the public, including costs, and allows for a more efficient and streamlined payment and reconciliation process,” he said.
Glenelg is able to retain its juniors through structured and engaging lesson plans as well as regular and effective communication with parents.
“Effective communication is the key,” Shane said.
“We produce and circulate a Junior Tigers MyGolf newsletter that includes a bio on one of the juniors, the next term’s program dates as well as junior membership offers, equipment packages and general information about golf each term.”
Shane has the full support of the club’s management, committee and a dedicated team of coaches around him to help with the success of their Junior Tigers MyGolf program.
“Having dedicated coaches and the full support of club management and committee is essential for clubs to run a successful program,” he said.
