MyGolf Centre of the Month: May 2015

Carramar Golf Course, a public golf course located 40 minutes north of Perth in Western Australia, is currently the largest MyGolf centre in the west.

Carramar decided to align its junior program with the MyGolf program earlier this year and has experienced a great response from the local juniors.

“I wanted Carramar to join the MyGolf program so the juniors would feel as though they are part of something bigger than just the Carramar junior program, they are part of the national junior golf program – MyGolf,” MyGolf Coordinator and PGA professional, Danielle Montgomery said.

The very first MyGolf program that Danielle ran at Carramar was a ‘girls club’ that started with three young girls and quickly increased to 10. Since opening the MyGolf program to all juniors the following term, Carramar experienced 50 enrolments in their term two, 2015 program.

After a rather successful term two program, Danielle will look to continue running the MyGolf program at Carramar every term.  “The kids love it! Hopefully they bring some friends along next term,” Danielle said.

When asked what the biggest benefit of joining the MyGolf program was, Danielle had nothing but praise for the online registration component of the program.

“This has saved me a lot of time in administration and trying to keep track of manual registrations. I now have all of the contact information and parent consent forms on hand with a click of a button,” Danielle said.

“The MyGolf program is very well structured and has proven to make things a lot easier for me. Golf Australia and the PGA of Australia have been really supportive in providing MyGolf coordinator manuals, posters and certificates free of charge.”

In order to keep all of her juniors engaged across all 7 of Carramar’s MyGolf programs, Danielle makes sure the sessions are heavily emphasised around ‘fun’ throughout the activities and games, whilst they gradually learn the golf skills.

“Golf isn’t learnt in one lesson or even one term, so I just want to ensure that the juniors are enjoying the process of learning in a fun environment,” Danielle said.

Danielle has praised the different levels that the MyGolf program offers – Rookie, Star and Master. She feels it is a great way to keep the juniors involved in the MyGolf program term after term.  As their skills progress, they can progress throughout the levels.

“My main focus is getting as many kids involved in golf as possible and feeding them on to the appropriate private golf club when they have advanced past the master level and are ready to take their golf to the next level,” Danielle said.

Congratulations to Danielle and her team at Carramar on a great result. We look forward to seeing your success continue term after term.
