MYGolf Centre wins Clubs NSW award

Howlong Country Golf Club has received a Highly Commended award in the Clubs NSW Clubs and Community Awards. Howlong received this award for their MyGolf Junior Program story in the Sport category.

Club General Manager, Chris Rebbechi said “The Howlong Country Golf Club was delighted to be recognised by the Club industry in the highly contested sports category.”

Club President Ken Walton said “The Club is very proud to be receiving this honour which is recognition of the hard work of our Community Coaches and the success of the Howlong My Golf Program.”

Clubs NSW received over 200 stories from 90 clubs right across the state, all of which are unique and special in their own way.  The winners were announced at the Clubs & Community Awards Dinner held at the Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park, Sydney on Friday, 9 May 2014. The Awards showcased many of these stories and announced the winners of each core community category: Health, Youth, Sport, Education, Emergency Services, Welfare and Social Inclusion, Environment and Outstanding Regional Initiative.

Howlong Country Club was a very worthy recipient of a Highly Commended Award for their commitment to getting young people involved in golf. The affordable program that was set up by the club has seen participation in the program jump from 15 to 140 young people.  The Club has partnered with Jack Newton Junior Golf, Golf Australia and the Murray District Golf Association to achieve a fantastic outcome for participants and for future growth of the game of golf.

Howlong latest award for the very successful Howlong My Golf Program comes on the back of a string of awards over recent years. The Club was named the Golf Australia’s Inaugural MYGolf Centre of month for December 2011. This was quickly followed with further recognition of the Howlong Program from the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation by the awarding of the prestigious JNJG Golf Junior Club of the Year 2011 title. In 2012 the Club was again recognised by Golf Australia winning Golf Australia’s MYGolf Centre of the Year 2012 Title. A tremendous achievement for such a small Club to win the national award. At the start of 2013 the Club was once again recognised but this time through a National Community Golf Coach award 2013 for outstanding contribution to the development of Golf in Australia which was won by Junior Coordinator Jan Wilson.

Club General Manager Chris Rebbechi Said “Jan’s contribution to the program has been amazing she has created an administration system that has made implementing a detailed program easy to follow and has rolled out this system to Clubs across the District.”

The Highly Commended Award in the prestigious Clubs NSW awards recognizes the contribution that Howlong has made to the development of junior golf across the country.
