Na steps up the pace

Local hope Stephanie Na picked up where she left off on Monday, carding a second round four-under to lead the Srixon Australian Women&aposs Stroke Play by five shots from West Australian Kristie Smith. Na mastered the blustery conditions at Glenelg Golf Club to post a daily best round of 70, leaving her in the box seat at the half-way mark of the event. Smith, leading amateur at the 2008 Women&aposs Australian Open was a model of consistency as she posted consecutive rounds of 72 while the English duo of Naomi Edwards and Liz Bennett are in equal third position at three-under. The men got their Srixon Australian Amateur campaign underway today with the first round contested at Royal Adelaide and The Grange Golf Clubs. Matthew Griffin continued his recent fine form by posting a four-under 68 to seize a share of the lead alongside fellow Victorian Josh Younger. The Golf Australia/AIS National Squad pair lead a group of seven-players including Michael Foster and Englishman Dale Whitnell by just one shot. Defending Australian Amateur Champion Rohan Blizard fired a two-over 74, but is well in the hunt on an extremely tight leaderboard. The men switch courses on Tuesday while the women continue their pursuit for glory at Glenelg Golf Club. The men&aposs field will be cut to the top 100 (plus ties) at the close of play with the top 32 in both the men&aposs and women&aposs stroke play championships qualifying for the Srixon Australian Amateur Championship beginning on Friday April 18.
