Nail Biting Finish to Alpine Senior Masters

The stage was set for a nail biting close finish today at Bright for the second and final round of the 2015 Alpine Senior Masters. Thunderstorms and steady rain overnight left the course damp, but players were lucky to enjoy perfect weather this morning, ideal for low scoring.

Champion of the day was Cobram- Barooga’s Ross Percy, shooting a 4 over par 76 off the stick to take home the 2015 Alpine Senior Masters title. After taking the lead in the first round yesterday, Percy played in the first group with his nearest rivals, just holding them off to finish with a two round total of 149 (73, 76). Second place had to go to a countback between friendly rivals Gordon Claney  (Kingson Heath) and Ian Frost (Bendigo), with Claney the victor of their battle finishing only 1 shot back from Percy on 150.

Stan Davis (Bendigo) shot a solid nett 72 today to win the handicap title 3 shots clear of runner up Cardinia Beaconhills’ Norman Wilson.

Special thanks are to be extended to the Bright Country Golf Club for their superb hospitality, in particular Captain Peter McGrath, Peter Malkin, course superintendent, Jenny Richter and all the volunteers for their assistance.

The next event on the Senior Calendar is down at Flinders and Portsea Golf Clubs for the Mornington Peninsula Senior Amateur on Monday 23 –Tuesday 24 March, then across to Warrnambool Golf Club for the Warrnambool Senior Amateur on Tuesday 31 March and Wednesday 1 May.
