Nathan Waters defends Country Crown

Nathan Waters has shot an incredible 9 under par total of 135, to defend his NSW Country Championship crown today at Muswellbrook GC. Nathan won by 5 strokes to Mid Nth Coast&aposs Logan Toms, who today fired an equal tournament best round of 67. Central Nth&aposs Ben Lockwood finished in third place, a further stroke behind. Hunter River DGA took out the Inter-District title, by 5 strokes, ahead of Northern Rivers and Mid Nth Coast. Today&aposs hot weather and calm conditions resulted in some equally hot scoring, with eleven players shooting under par scores. Nathan Waters has taken a giant step towards defending his Country Championship title after a five under round of 67 at Muswellbrook in round 1. Local Muswellbrook member, Waters was recently crowned Club Champion, and has taken this fine form into the Country Championship. Waters had five birdies in a six hole stretch, to go with his 13 pars in a solid performance. Waters has a four stroke lead to a chasing pack of four – Tamworth&aposs Ben Lockwood, Duntryleague&aposs Andrew Campbell and Port Kembla&aposs Jack Kessell. The locals, Hunter District, lead the Inter-District event by six strokes, ahead of ACT Monaro and Illawarra. Team Managers Bob Scarr and Dave Parkinson stated that it “was way too early to start celebrating,as there was still a lot of golf left in the tournament”.

Fine weather has greeted the capacity field at Muswellbrook today. Locals have been listed as favourites for this wekend&aposs event, with recently crowned Club Champion, Nathan Waters, being the one to watch following his four under par total over 72 holes recently. Nathan is also defending Country Champion. Championship Leaderboard Nett Leaderboard Teams Leaderboard The Championship was open to male amateur golfers with a handicap of 9.4 or under, and will be played over two rounds of 18-holes with shotgun starts on both days. This year 16 Districts will battle it out for the Inter-District Teams Championship. Teams have six members, with the best four scratch scores each day counting towards the team total. Teams Leaderboard A range of prizes will be awarded, including:

  • NSW Country Championship (scratch) 1st place
  • NSW Country Championship (scratch) 2nd place
  • NSW Country Championship (scratch) 3rd place
  • 36 Holes Nett Winner
  • 36 Holes Nett Runner Up
  • 1st 18 Holes Scratch Winner
  • 2nd 18 Holes Scratch Winner
