National Squad Diary: Cameron Smith

Luckily enough this year I got selected in the National Squad, which means for me another year of seeing all my mates on trips around Australia and the world. It is always good to be a part of something that is producing results; like Oliver Goss just winning the WA Open and Jake Higginbottom just winning the NZ Open. I think as well as playing well for the week a little bit of the reward has to go to the Golf Australia High Performance Team for preparing them for great results. I feel great to get selected again and can&apost help but think my time is coming soon. A few weeks ago now I was told that I was exempt into the 2012 Emirates Australian Open. This is very exciting for me to get to play in a world class field and really test myself. I feel as though I am coming into good form and there s no better tournament for me to peak in then this one. I am definitely overdue! If you re down in Sydney I am told that I might be doing a clinic for you guys, hopefully I can meet you all there! I just came back recently from the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in Thailand. WOW!! That tournament is awesome. We got put up in excellent accommodation and got to play the set course in Thailand. The course was amazing, everything about it was perfect. I did not hear a complaint from anyone the whole week. Possibly the best thing about this tournament is if you win you get a start in The Masters!! Although none of the Aussies could scrape through for a win, we had 5 of our 6 players finish in the top 7 so another good result for Australia in that tournament. Thanks for reading, hopefully I will see you at the Australian Open! Cameron Smith is a member of Golf Australia&aposs National Squad and was the 2012 Australian Amateur Medallist.
