Hira Naveed rallied late to keep the host flag flying in the women’s Australian Amateur Championship, presented by Swinging Skirts.

Naveed, down for most of her match against Yuna Nishimura, drew level on the 16th with a quality par, then made another rock-solid par up the last as her Japanese opponent faltered.

Naveed is the final Aussie woman alive after her fellow West Australian Kirsten Rudgeley fell 3&2 minutes earlier Suzuka Yamaguchi.

The international nature of the women’s field was hammered home in the other quarter-finals with Taiwan’s Han Hsuan Yu and Korean Ayean Cho saluting to ensure four different nations are represented in this afternoon’s semi-finals.

On the men’s side, there’s a guarantee of an Aussie in the men’s final after Queensland’s Shae Wools-Cobb and Victorian David Micheluzzi booked a showdown with narrow quarter-final victories.

On the other side of the draw, New Zealand’s Jordan Woodall ended the chances of an all-Aussie final when he up-ended the impressive Josh Greer 3&2.

Japan’s Keita Nakajima rallied late to beat England’s David Hague and will next play Woodall.
