Neaton wins Queensland Mid Amateur

Rockhampton&aposs Michael Neaton has won the 2010 Men&aposs Mid Amateur Championship by a commanding 10 shots after carding a final round 1-under par 71 at Pelican Waters Golf Club. Leading the field after the first two days, Neaton was again a model of consistency throughout his final round which included three birdies. His three-round total of 215 was 10 shots clear of second placed Malcolm Hugh (Gainsborough Greens) who carded a final round 2-over par 74. A further shot back in third position was Redcliffe&aposs Dean Dunleavy who carded a final round 3-over par 75. Neaton&aposs final round 71 was the best score of the final day at Pelican Waters, which held up extremely well despite Monday&aposs heavy rain continuing throughout the night and into this morning&aposs earlier tee times. In the Sunshine Coast Destination Upper Mid Amateur division (44 – 55 years), interstate visitor Kym Olsen (The National) maintained his lead throughout the event following rounds of 76, 78 and 80. Second in the Upper Mid Amateur division was Anthony Baker (Keperra) with third position going to Pete Wouters (Caloundra). In the Footjoy Club Teams event the Keperra team of Anthony Baker, Mark Draper and Robert Groth came from behind on the final day to pip the two local teams from Pelican Waters.
