Both former champions Denis Dale (NSW) and Chris Coats (QLD) were defeated in the second round, paving the way for a new name on the trophy. On a day of stern tests for the entire a field, fierce winds and a sudden sandstorm lowered visibility with all players forced to execute high quality shots to stay in contention.
