New Country MyGolf Camp a big hit with Juniors

Inaugural NSW Country MyGolf Coaching Camp

Bathurst 21st – 23rd September

A joint initiative between Jack Newton Junior Golf, the Central West District Golf Association and local club professionals has resulted in the inaugural Junior MyGolf Coaching Camp in Bathurst. Forty-three boys and eleven girls ranging in age from eight through to sixteen years of age from Bathurst, Oberon, Blayney, Duntryleague, Wentworth, Forbes, Parkes, Mudgee, Dubbo and Henbury registered for the 3-day camp. The Bathurst Heritage Park provided excellent dormitory style accommodation and great practice facilities as well as the new golf course for the youngsters to hone their skills.

Golf professionals Matt Barrett (Bathurst), Peter Mayson (Mudgee), Matt Docking (Cowra), Craig Mears (Dubbo) and Bruce McLean (Orange) provided the payers with expert tuition in all aspects of the game of golf. Bathurst Golf Club was used for some serious (and fun) on course tuition.

JNJG CEO Peter Van Wegen was on hand to welcome all players and parents at registration. Peter Mitchell from the Central West DGA has provided substantial funding for the camp and all players will be registered in the National MyGolf program.

The initiative developed from a recent meeting between all of the professionals looking for opportunities for young people to develop their skills as well as meet and interact with other young golfers. Matt Barrett sees the camp as the beginning of an annual event and hopes to increase the numbers to over 100 players.
