Wollongong Golf Club is set to become an industry leader in the sports hospitality field after the club lodged plans to develop one of the State's first multi-level driving range and entertainment space on its city site.
The development is targeted at the tourism market as well as the city's growing population and reflects growing global demand in the golf sector for premium entertainment-based golf products similar to Las Vegas' Top Golf Complex.
"We see this as a fantastic way to improve our facilities while taking advantage of the growing population in the City of Wollongong,” General Manager of Wollongong Golf Club Leigh Hingston said.
The multi-storey design will offer members and their guests a relaxed way to enjoy the game in modern comfortable surrounds while experiencing the club's unparalleled food and beverage service. The plans also incorporate dedicated coaching bays for the club's professional staff and additional storage for motorised golf carts.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to provide a facility to foster the development of some of our best local sporting talent while introducing new people to the game,"
Destination Wollongong General Manager Mark Sleigh agrees.
"Golf Tourism is acknowledged as a priority growth sector in the Destination NSW China Tourism Strategy. Companies like Village-Roadshow are investing millions in premium entertainment based golf products like the recent announcement of Top Golf arriving on the Gold Coast within the next three years.”
A decision to undertake the project will be made once the plans are approved by Wollongong City Council, which is expected to be completed by October this year.
