FINAL RESULTS Fifteen year old New Zealand rising star Cecilia Cho overcame a host of challengers to win the Srixon Australian Women’s Stroke Play Championship by one stroke at Cottesloe Golf Club in Perth on Saturday. Cho finished the championship with rounds of 74, 69, 72 and 72 to finish at 1-under par and ahead of Victorian Breanna Elliott and Liu Yi-Chen (TPE) who were tied for second place at even par. The win is Cho s first in Australia and comes on the back of the fifteen individual titles she won in 2009 including the New Zealand Amateur championship. It’s pretty exciting to win because it s my first time in Australia, Cho said. When I came over I thought I could win but I didn t think about it too much. Given it s my first time, it was more about the experience. The Pakuranga Golf Club member said she thought she would have to shoot a low score to have any chance of victory. I thought last night I would probably have to shoot about 5-under to win, Cho said. I didn t shoot that today so I didn t think I would win. With the win, Cho joins the company of former winners including World Golf Hall of Fame member and World Number 8 Karrie Webb and said her mother was delighted when she spoke to her. I spoke to Mum and she said Oh My God! and was very excited, Cho said. Overnight leader Justine Lee (NSW) finished with a final round 4-over par 76 to finish at 1-over par for the championship in outright fourth place. Western Australia s Jessica Speechley finished in fifth place and two strokes behind Lee at 3-over par. New Zealand s Zoe Brake and Taipei s Hsuan-Yu Yao finished tied for sixth place at 6-over par. The top 32 players will now contest the Srixon Australian Amateur Championship (Match Play Format) from Monday 22 March at Lake Karrinyup Country Club.
