A busy September saw the conclusion of the Australian Men&aposs and Colts Interstate Teams Matches in Launceston and the inaugural Australian Men’sSenior Amateur Match Play Championship at Barwon Heads Golf Club, just outside Geelong in Victoria At the Interstate Teams Matches at Launceston Golf Club, the New South Wales team put on a week-long show of outstanding golf to claim a third successive Interstate Series while also taking out honours in the Colts at Mowbray Golf Club. The defending champs were pushed all the way, forced to win on the final day to ensure victory over a determined Queensland side. Queensland remained in second place despite a loss on the last day, while South Australia snatched third position with a narrow win over hosts Tasmania. New South Wales was just as emphatic in the Colts, running out winners by five matches. Western Australia finished in second place, just half a contest behind the winners while South Australia sealed third spot with a final day win over host state Tasmania. The Queenslander played solid golf throughout the week and emerged victorious after downing local Phil Wood in the final 3&2. Last year&aposs Senior Amateur Champion, Wendy O&aposConnell, is back to defend her title, while the inaugural Mid Amateur Championship is sure to be fiercely contested.
