Nicholas leads in WA all abilities

History has been created with the WA Open All Abilities Championship getting underway at Cottesloe Golf Club today.

The 36-hole Championship for golfers with disability is being played within this year’s Nexus Risk WA Open.

It’s the first time an All Abilities Championship has been run inside a state open following the successful format of the Australian All Abilities Championship at the Men’s Australian Open.

Eleven players from WA, VIC and NSW are playing for the Terry Gale Cup, the same trophy as the WA Open amateur field.

“We wanted to ensure that these incredible players have the same opportunity to win a state title," Golf WA CEO Gary Thomas said.

"To play this event inside the Nexus Risk WA Open ensures these players not only share the same experience, it also highlights the inclusive nature of the game to everyone,” Thomas added.

New South Welshman Geoff Nicholas  holds a four stroke lead after round one over Victorian Arnold Bamroong.
