Helen Nolan (Albury) and Ian Frost (Bendigo) have claimed the 2014 Surfcoast Senior Amateur titles after demonstrating some exceptional golf. Players went out early this morning in what was a hazy mornings round of golf with bushfires burning across the state. Relatively calm winds again made for some good scoring across the field, especially the case for Ian Frost and eventual runner up Barry Tippett (13th Beach).
Frost fired a final round even par 72 after his two over par 74 performance yesterday to clinch the trophy from Barry Tippett. “That’s the best I could play, and the course was great. I guess when you play well you think highly of the course” Frost said in his presentation speech.
Barry, who was a former member at The Sands, carded a solid one under par 71 today to only come up just short.
In the nett, Ken Rogers (Victoria) with his handicap of 10 won on a countback with nett scores of 70 and 71 for a 141 total. Runner Up was Colac member Greg Welsh.
In the women’s, Helen Nolan continued her form from yesterday to record two rounds of 36 and 29 to win by 4 stableford points over Judy Magill (Warragul).
“I hit it consistently straight. I also felt very confident with my putting” Nolan said.
Thank you to The Sands Torquay for this year’s hosting. The hospitality was exceptional and all players enjoyed the two days. Players will stay down on the Bellarine Peninsula to contest the Lonsdale Senior Amateur which begins on Thursday.
