Australia’s top global professional golfer will win the Greg Norman Medal.
The annual award, to be presented between the Emirates Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship in early December, brings golf into line with many other national sports that honour their elite stars.
In Sydney to announce the medal, Norman said he was “deeply grateful and honoured to have this prestigious award” named in his honour.
“It will hold a place of pride and prominence in my heart,” the former long-standing world No.1 said.
“Australian golf is in a great place right now and I hope the young players out representing our country are inspired that hard work and perseverance can lead you to great things.
“My dream is to see others go on and achieve even more than I did.”
The Greg Norman Medal will be presented to the best male or female professional golfer on tours domestically and around the world.
The award will be judged by a five-member panel of current or former pro golfers, chaired by respected PGA veteran Peter O’Malley.
Ian Baker-Finch, Graham Marsh, Michael Long and ALPG legend Jane Crafter will complete the panel.
