Northern Golf reigned supreme in the recent Thyne Trophy and North vs South Plate conducted at the Launceston Golf Club.
The Northern men’s team of Cam Bell, Brett Churchill, Jarryd Collis, Greg Longmore, Drew Ponting, James Pyke, Ryan Thomas and Mitch Van Noord proved too strong finishing undefeated for the tournament.
The North overwhelmed Golf North West six matches to one in Saturday’s round and followed up with a five to two win over Southern Country on Sunday morning.
The strong Northern outfit then manufactured a crushing five matches to two victory over reigning champions Southern Metropolitan on Sunday afternoon.
Mitch Van Noord defeated Andrew Phillips 4&3, James Pyke beat Paul Read 4&3, Brett Churchill routed David Pretyman 5&4 and Ryan Thomas overcame Elijah Stanley 3&2.
Southern Metropolitan Golf Association’s sole victory was through Richard Kube defeating Drew Ponting 4&3.
Greg Longmore and Cam Bell squared their matches with Nathan Gatehouse and Matthew Glover respectively.
Golf North West were runners-up in the final standings thanks to a strong round two victory over Southern Metropolitan who placed third in front of the Southern Country in fourth.
Northern Golf’s Brett Churchill, James Pyke and Mitch Van Noord, and Metropolitan’s Richard Kube remained undefeated for the tournament.
In the women’s North versus South Plate, the Northern ladies completely outclassed their Southern opponents.
Leading four matches to one after the first day of foursomes at Launceston Golf Club, the Northern team dominated Sunday’s matches.
Northern wins went to Sarah Johnstone, Tammy Hall, Jackie Poke, Deidre Panton, Rosemary Paton, Maree Fish and Lu Proud.
The South’s singles wins went to Hallie Meaburn defeating Lily Callie 1up, Leslie Bick overcoming Amanda Smith 1up and Sue Richardson beating Sharon Crowden 1up.
Final Standings (Thyne Trophy): Northern Golf 3-16, Golf North West 2-11.5, Southern Metropolitan Golf Association 1-9.5, Southern Country Golf Association 0-5.
