Northern Senior Amateur draws to an end

The final round of the 2016 Northern Senior Amateur concluded this morning as 49 male & female senior golfers tackled the Northern GC layout. After 15mm’s of rain fell overnight, players faced a damp layout as play got underway. Fortunately, the overnight inclement weather improved into a mostly sunny morning.

After the first day’s play, pre-tournament favourites Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) and Ian Frost (Rich River) were looking to maintain their respective overnight leads with both the Men’s and Women’s nett championships also a tight affair heading into today’s final round.

In the Women’s nett event, Kooringal’s Heather Harley took out the top prize with a two round stableford total of 60 points. Tina Cowie (Tambo Valley) finished runner-up with a total of 49 points. In the stroke championship, Helen Pascoe was crowned the Women’s Northern Senior Amateur champion for 2016 with a fine two round gross stableford points total of 60 points. Local Northern member Colleen Potter finished runner-up with 23 points.

In the Men’s nett event, Sandhurst member Wayne Aigner fired a strong nett final round of 69 to finish the nett champion with a two round nett total of 143. Local Northern member Brian Smith finished runner-up just one shot shy on a total of 144.

Defending Northern Senior Amateur champion and overnight leader Ian Frost (Rich River) secured back to back titles after a final round 77 was enough to give the current Doug Bachli order of merit champion a three shot win. Rob Wallace finished runner-up after two solid rounds of 75 and 77 gave the Midlands local a 36-hole total of 152.

Attention now moves to the Bendigo Senior Amateur (Oct 6 -7), late entries are still available, interested players are advised to visit the tournament homepage to access and submit an entry form.
