Northern Territory country champions decided

Katherine Country recently played host to the 2015 Arthur J Gallagher Golf NT Country Championships and Mixed Foursomes Championships.

A Full field of 89 Players contested the 54 Hole Championship and 17 Pairs teed up in the NT Mixed Foursomes.

Darwin RAAF duo, Rebecca and Nick Etherton fired a great round in windy conditions to shoot 81 off the stick and win by one shots from Runners Up Christine Ritchie and Brett Rankin from Darwin Golf Club

The Arthur J Gallagher 54 Hole Stroke Country Championships kicked off on Saturday with excellent conditions and a bit of wind greeting the 89 starters. Robert Miller (Darwin GC) with 73 off the stick, was the early club house leader by 3 shots for the Men’s Championship and Tanya Kirker (Alice Springs) shot an excellent 79 to lead the Women’s event after Day 1 by five shots.

Miller fired a 77 in round 2 to head into the final round holding a four shot lead from local Mal Rooney.

Asha Hargreaves shot an impressive 81 on day 2 give her a one shot lead over Kirker who shot an uncharacteristic 87.

Very windy conditions greeted the field on the final day and the leading groups found the going tough. Rob Miller retained his composure around the back 9 to run out an eventual winner by five shots from Rooney and Mark Holt (Katherine).

Asha Hargreaves held her nerve in the final round to shoot her best round of 80 to run out a comfortable 7 shot winner over Tanya Kirker.

Darwin RAAF’s big hitting Rex Williamson etched his name in the record books with a course record of 71 (-1) after the new course ratings were implemented in 2014.
