Norwegian wins women’s play-off

Suzann Pettersen made a birdie putt on the second play-off hole to edge out Lorena Ochoa to win the Longs Drugs Challenge on Sunday. The Norwegian, who along with Ochoa is the only multiple winner on the LPGA Tour this season, posted her third win of the campaign after both players were locked at 11-under-par after four rounds. Both players birdied the first play-off hole but Ochoa missed from 20 feet on the second extra hole to allow Pettersen to hole from six feet to claim the victory. Overnight leader Pettersen struggled on Sunday, bogeying two of her first three holes but grabbed a birdie at the fifth before reaching the turn three-over-par after dropping another shot at the ninth. She continued to struggle with back-to-back bogeys at the start of the back nine before three birdies in four holes from the 12th rescued the one-over-par round. Ochoa, who trailed Pettersen by two strokes after three rounds, reached the turn at two-under-par but a bogey at the 11th which was followed by a double bogey a hole later saw the tour money leader slip back to even-par. But the Mexican responded and birdied the 13th before sinking a crucial birdie at the 17th after Pettersen&aposs back-to-back birdies. “I was just glad to be able to be in a play-off, to have the chance to win the tournament,” said Ochoa. “I struggled a lot and made that bogey on 11 and double-bogey on the 12th. I am proud of myself the way I came back and made a couple birdies.” Juli Inkster carded a final round 70 to finish third at seven-under-par, while Lorie Kane and Natalie Gulbis finished tied for fourth a further stroke adrift.
