NSW battle QLD for Boys’ Interstate Matches title

Australian Boys&apos Interstate Teams Matches – Results Round 5 Australian Boys&apos Interstate Teams Matches – Results Round 6 New South Wales faces a final round showdown with Queensland needing to win just one match to claim the Australian Boys Interstate Teams Matches at Launceston Golf Club. Among a host of close morning results, the New South Welshmen had Jake Higginbottom, Josh Cabban and Andrius Belkius to thank for their narrow 3-2 win over Victoria. Victorians Sean Ong and Tom Power-Horan recorded important victories in the other two matches. In the afternoon matches, New South Wales defeated South Australia 3 to 1 with Jarrod Freeman, Cabban and Belkius undefeated as newly-crowned Australian Boys Amateur Champion Anthony Murdaca (SA) defeated NSW Amateur champion Jake Higginbottom 3&2. The result kept NSW on top of the table and needing just one match to go their way against Queensland to seal victory. Queensland began the day in decisive fashion with a 4-1 victory over Northern Territory which included dominant wins from Aaron Wilkin (9&8) and Cameron Smith (8&6). A hard fought 3-2 win over Western Australia in the afternoon kept the Queenslanders in touch with New South Wales. Victoria goes into its final round contest against the Northern Territory with a chance of snatching second place. The Victorians, in third place, bounced back from the morning defeat to NSW to beat the Australian Capital Territory 3 to 1 with Ben Eccles impressive in his 8&6 victory. Western Australia sits in fourth place, ahead on matches only, from Tasmania in fifth place. The ACT sits in sixth place, no doubt boosted by the performances of 11 year old Ryan Ruffels who is undefeated since the opening round. The Northern Territory is in seventh place while South Australia is in eighth place going into the final day.
