NSW Open joins forces with Cancer Council NSW

The Hon. Jillian Skinner MP, Minister for Health, The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, Minister for Trade, Minister for Major Events and Tourism, Minister for Sport, Jim L'Estrange, Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Council NSW and Chris Allen, Chairman Golf NSW announced the Cancer Council NSW as NSW Open Golf Championship's Charity Partner for the next two years.

"Together Golf NSW and the Cancer Council NSW will highlight to the tens of thousands of golfers, both social and members of affiliated clubs, the importance of protecting themselves against the sun when playing golf," Chris Allen, Chairman Golf NSW said.

"We will be working with the Cancer Council team to help raise funds to continue the vital research into identifying a cure for this horrible disease."

The announcement took place in the Speaker's Garden, NSW Parliament House with Ministers, MPs, and Golf NSW's special guest Deborah Hutton in attendance.

Guests were able to hone their putting skills as part of the national GOLF MONTH Campaign and have photos taken with the NSW Open Championship trophy – the Kel Nagle Cup.

Mr Allen paid tribute to the hosts of the launch, "I sincerely thank Jillian and Stuart for hosting today’s event."

The 2015 NSW Open Championship is being held at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club in the heart of Western Sydney beginning on Thursday 12 November.

"I'm inviting you all to come out to the Open Championship and hope you bring plenty of gold coins to donate to the Cancer Council NSW volunteers," Mr Allen said.

"Golf NSW is committed to restoring the NSW Open Championship to its rightful place as one of the premier sporting events on the State and National sporting calendars, and with partners like Cancer Council NSW and the NSW Government the objective is well on its way to being achieved," Mr Allen added.
