NSW pair Freeman & Perry win NT Amateur Foursomes

The HOSTPLUS Northern Territory Amateur Foursomes has been won by NSW pair Jarrod Freeman and Dylan Perry after a birdie on the first play-off hole against Paul Edwards and Peter Hargreaves (NT). Freeman "stiffed" his 44m third shot wedge to two feet for a tap in birdie by Perry on the Par 5 18th to claim victory.

There is a real buzz around the Darwin Golf Club this week as interstate players converge for the HOSTPLUS NT Men’s Amateur. In its lead up a total of 47 teams contested the NT Men’s Foursomes that took place on 28th May. The next morning 193 players will contest the 72-holes stroke play amateur event which takes place from 29th May to 1st June.

The NT Golf Clubs are well represented with 126 entries with players from Alice Springs GC (7), Jabiru (5), Palmerston (9), Katherine (3), Humpty Doo (3), Darwin RAAF (9), Gardens (1) and Darwin (89) entering.

All the States and Territories are represented as well with Queensland represented by 24 players, NSW (23), Victoria (12), South Australia (3) Western Australia (2) and Tasmania and ACT with one entry each.

Darwin Golf Club Captain, Wayne Morris is ecstatic with the size and quality of the field. “This years’ Hostplus NT Amateur is the strongest field ever to enter with 77 players in the field playing off four or less” Morris said. The 2013 winner, David Micheluzzi (Vic) returns to defend his title but will have strong competition from Simon Viitakangas (Qld – +3.2), Anthony Quayle (Qld +2.5) and Cory Crawford (Qld +2.2) who all sit in the top fifteen of the Australian Amateur Rankings.
