Forbes local John Betland has won the 2016 NSW Sand and Grass Greens Championship at Grenfell Country Club and Forbes Golf Club over the weekend. Betland posted a neat score of two-over-par at Grenfell in difficult conditions then followed it up with a great round of one-under-par at Forbes to clinchj the title by eight shots from Walcha's Andrew Brennan.
The Women’s Championship was taken out by Rosemary Orr of Narrandera tby four shots from first round leader Margaret Naseby of Coleambally.
In the handicap competitions, Paul Friend of Peak Hill had an exceptional score of 83 stableford points for the two rounds to beat Binalong’s Joe Dyball on 76 points. In the women’s section, Maria Neill of Grenfell had a great second round of 40 points to go with her first round 30 points to eventually win by eight shots from fellow Grenfell member Virginia Drogemuller.
