Golf NSW announced the players to represent NSW at the 2015 Interstate Series, the premier Team Golf Championships in Australia.
The Australian Men’s Interstate Teams Matches will be held from 27 April to 1 May at Huntingdale Golf Club, Victoria. Last year the NSW Men’s Team was narrowly defeated by Victoria in the finals to place second.
The Australian Women’s Interstate Teams Matches will be held in the same city from 27 to 30 April at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The NSW Women’s Team also finished second to a strong WA side headed by the now turned pro Minjee Lee to take home the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup.
Coach Dean Kinney said, “After second place finishes in all four teams last year, the athletes will be working hard to go one better this year. We have selected teams that are full of experience and some young talent. It is a very exciting time for golf in NSW with our athletes bringing home many of the national titles, but an interstate series win would really top this off."
The Australian Boys’ Interstate Teams Matches will be held from 13-16 April at Links Lady Bay Golf Club in South Australia. The Australian Girls’ Interstate Teams Matches will be held from 13-15 April at Fleurieu Golf Club, South Australia.
The Australian Junior Championship will be played at Kooyonga GC for the boys and Tea Tree Gully for the girls from 8-10 April. Both the junior team members and the members of the Development Squads will enter this 72 hole stroke play event.
A further eight players (four boys and four girls) have also been selected for the development squad to work alongside the elite squad members. They have been chosen for their potential and because they have been identified as those who will gain most from this experience.
Coach Kinney stated, "The development players have been selected to give them opportunities to train amongst the best juniors in the country. These players have shown great attitude, work ethic and ability to really excel in golf and we trust this will assist their journey."
A point of note is that more than half of the chosen players have hailed from Country NSW.
