Oakleigh challenges Rookies

For the very first time in a Rookie Series event an equal number of boys and girls assembled at Oakleigh Golf Club. Usually the boys outnumber the girls but not on this occasion with a bumper girl’s field teeing off on the narrow layout. A couple of scattered showers rolled over the course on the odd occasion but thankfully they didn’t last long.

In her first attempt at a Rookie Series event Olive Spitty finished on top of the leaderboard in the under 9 girls with a superb round of 44. Sophie Mann dominated once again finishing with 39 while Amelia Goodwin notched out Nicolette Hilaris on a count-back for the under 12 nett honours. The smooth swinging Rose Britt booked herself a place in the final following her round of 42 in the under 16 girls sector.

William Li carded the lowest round of the day with 35 to walk home with the under 9 boys title. Adam Mao was too strong in the under 12 boys sector carding 38 in the damp conditions for a two-shot victory. Justin Wei blitzed the field with his fantastic nett score of 23 for the handicap prize. Meanwhile Jack Scarborough managed his way around for 42 and top spot in the under 16 boys.
