Minjee Lee, the world’s number one amateur is off to a flying start at the US Women’s Open, firing an opening round one-under 69 to be tied for third alongside fellow Aussie Katherine Kirk and So Yeon Ryu (Korea). Just one shot further back is Karrie Webb who opened with an even par round of 70. American’s Stacy Lewis (-3) and Michelle Wie (-2) are in first and second place respectively.
In February, Lee ran away with victory at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links to claim the Oates Vic Open trophy by six shots and has continued to shine on the world stage.
Lee will have an early tee time in round two, playing in group five with American’s Dori Carter and Kristy McPherson.
