Oates Vic Open officially launches with Sports Minister & GME

The 2014 Oates Vic Open launch took place Tuesday morning at The Grovedale Hotel as the Minister for Sport, the Hon. Hugh Delahunty and Chair of Geelong Major Events, Cr. Ron Nelson announced funding support for next year’s event. The 90 plus attendees were also entertained by guest speakers Neil Balme and Sharelle McMahon during the breakfast.

In addition to announcing former World No.1 Laura Davies and Richard Green would be returning to play, a further special announcement was made with Challenge – supporting kids with cancer being named the official charity partner of the Oates Vic Open 2014 tournament. Challenge brings colour and relief to the lives of children and families living with cancer as they face the pressures of a life-threatening illness. With an emphasis on ‘fun’, they provide a range of practical services and therapies and a program of tailored experiences that remind them how good life can be.

Victorian golfer Jarrod Lyle who made a remarkable comeback to professional golf at the Talisker Masters a few weeks ago at Royal Melbourne Golf Club is an ambassador for Challenge.

Golf Victoria CEO, Simon Brookhouse spoke on the tournament committee’s decision to support Challenge for 2014.

"I think everyone would agree Jarrod’s return to golf last month struck a chord with not just the golfing community but the wider sporting community. It was a significant and highly emotional feat that Jarrod was able to conquer and the Oates Vic Open looks forward to doing its bit throughout tournament week to create awareness and generate some funds towards the worthy charity," said Brookhouse.

The Oates Vic Open will run from 20 – 23 February 2014 at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links.
