Australia’s World Number 1 amateur Minjee Lee has continued her brilliant year by qualifying for the U.S Women’s Open at Pinehurst in June.
The 17 year-old from Perth bounced back from a first round 74 to shoot a second round 66 and claim the only sectional qualifying spot at North Oaks Golf Club in Minnesota.
Lee will join Karrie Webb, Katherine Kirk, Nikki Campbell and Stephanie Na in the field in North Carolina.
In February, Lee ran away with victory at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links to claim the Oates Vic Open Championship by six shots, including back-to-back rounds of 68 on the weekend.
The Golf Australia National Squad member finished nine strokes clear of American Amy Anderson who claimed the first alternate place by finishing runner-up.
It will be Lee’s first U.S Women’s Open appearance and her second consecutive appearance in an LPGA Tour Major Championship.
The Australian Amateur champion was crowned leading amateur at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April.
