O’Brien and Pascoe lead Vic Senior Am charge

Ken O’Brien and Helen Pascoe have shot out of the gates today at Hill Top GC.

Rossdale member O’Brien carded a 2 under par round of 69 which included an impressive 7 birdies to set the pace in the men’s field.

Two shots back is 2013 champion Chris Tatt of Buninyong with a steady even par round of 71.

O’Brien is also out in front in the nett section. The 2 marker posted a nett 67 to be leading by one shot from Yowani Country Club’s Geoff Strang.

Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) has started off strong today in the bid for her third Victorian Women’s Senior Amateur title. The 2014 and 2017 champion leads by 3 shots after her round of five over par 77.

Fresh off her victory at the South Australian Senior Amateur last week, Pascoe produced the shot of the day on the second, holing out for eagle from 130m with a knock-down 7 iron.

Kim Burke sits in outright second behind Pascoe with an 81. The Shelly Beach member made the journey down from New South Wales and will be looking to close the gap tomorrow.

The nett section sees Tina Cowie with a one-shot lead after her score of 72. The Pakenham member is closely followed by Helen Ellis (Forster-Tuncurry, NSW) on a nett 73.

Players will now head over to Shepparton GC for round 2 starting at 8am tomorrow.
