Wodonga pair Catherine Odgers and Casey Wild have captured the 2013 Victorian Women’s Country Foursomes Championship today at Cobram-Barooga Golf Club. The Championship kick starts a week of competition at the club which includes the Victorian Women’s Country Championship & Glenelg Cup. 70 pairs from various country golf clubs across the state, including inaugural champion June Woznica (Moe) who has competed in this event every year since the inception in 1979.
Odgers, a recently crowned Victorian Par 3 Champion and partner Wild carded an 82 in the morning on the Old Course to be joint leaders with Johanna Wyllie (Tambo Valley) and Jessica Pickwick (Kilmore). Competing on the West Course in the afternoon, the pair stormed home with 4 birdies in the second round for a one over par 73 to engrave their name on the Marion Dwyer Cup by a convincing 5 shots over Wyllie and Pickwick.
Taking out the 36-hole nett section was Midlands pair Kerry Bond and Rhonda Cator with a nett 150 (combined hcp 10.5). The best 18 hole nett score in the morning came from Warrnambool duo Allison Sinclair and Tricia Sullivan on 74.5, while the afternoon best nett was taken by Seymour duo Tania Zentveld and Emily Pell on 73.5.
The Country Championship and Glenelg Cup begins tomorrow morning from 7.45am.
