Geoff Ogilvy is in contention at the Quicken Loans National tournament at TPC Potomac in Maryland.
Despite approaching veteran status – he turned 40 last month – Ogilvy’s game is obviously in good shape after a second-round 65 following his opening 67 left him second behind David Lingmerth of Sweden, two shots from the lead.
The Melburnian birdied three of the first four holes starting on the back nine, and held on nicely from there. “It’s very nice to get off to a start like that. You want to get under before you get over on a course, like this, because it’s hard to catch up,’’ he told PGATour.com later. “It kind of beats you over the head all day.’’
Ogilvy, who has won eight times in America including the 2006 US Open, is playing this season on a career-earnings exemption in the fight to keep his longer-term playing rights, but he is making a decent fist of it.
Marc Leishman has dipped to tied-10th after a two-over par 72 in the second round, but rookie pro Curtis Luck is tied-16th and having a nice week after rounds of 68-71.
