Oh loses on playoff hole to eventual winner Talley at US Amateur

Su Oh’s brilliant run at the 2013 US Women’s Amateur in South Carolina came to an end over the weekend in dramatic fashion, losing to eventually winner Emma Talley (US) on the 19th hole in the quarter-final round.

In a tighly contested match that was covered by the Golf Channel on US TV and Foxtel in Australia, Oh showed great poise throughout with the crowd support fully on the side of Talley who is currently competing for US powerhouse College Alabama in the NCAA.

Both players put on a fantastic show with Oh hanging on a Talley four-footer on the 18th hole for the win. The American however was up for the challenge and sank the testy putt with every eyeball on the course fixated on her.

Oh and Talley headed to the 10th hole for a playoff but it was Oh this time that would be faced with a four-footer to stay in the match. Unfortunately, this time around the putt would miss, handing Talley the hard-fought victory.

Talley went on to beat Alison Lee 1up in the semi-final and took out the Championship with a 2&1 victory over Yueer Cindy Feng.

The US Men’s Amateur Championship begins tonight (Melbourne time) with Victorian Nathan Holman representing his state and country. Holman will tee off in the opening round at 7:15am (9pm Melbourne time Mon 12 Aug).
